                                     (प्रथम वल्ली)

                             ॐ अशन् ह वै वाजश्रवस: सर्ववेदसं ददौ।
                                                                तस्य ह नचिकेता नाम पुत्र आस ॥१॥

       It is well known that, desirous of the fruits of yagana, the son of Vajashrava donated away all his wealth in the Vishwajeet Yagana (a fire sacrifice to literally win the whole world). He had a renowned son by the name of Nachiketa.

                              वाजश्रवा ने यज्ञ के फल की कामना करते हुए विश्वजित यज्ञ (विश्व विजय की कामना से किया गया यज्ञ) में अपना सब धन दान दे दिया। उन का नचिकेता नाम से प्रख्यात एक पुत्र था।
